Delete your TikTok account permanently

Deleting a TikTok account removes videos, followers and messages permanently. Deactivation only hides the account temporarily.

How to delete your account

  1. Request your data first

Settings include a Request your data feature that gives you a copy of what TikTok has stored about you.

  2. Open account settings

Go to your profile, open the menu and choose Settings and privacy → Account → Deactivate or delete account.

  3. Choose deletion

Select deleting the account (not just deactivation) and follow the instructions. Deletion starts with a recovery window.

  4. Recovery window

The account can be reactivated during the recovery window by signing back in. The length is shown when you delete.

Opt out of AI training

No separate AI-training opt-out is available in this service.

TikTok's privacy policy lists training machine-learning models among processing purposes, but the policy documents no user-facing opt-out control for model training. The official help-center article URLs were confirmed from the support hub navigation, but article bodies render only with JavaScript and could not be content-verified.

What happens to your data after deletion

The privacy policy states retention varies by data type and purpose: account information is kept as long as the account exists, and some information may be retained after violations of terms or to comply with legal obligations. No specific post-deletion timeline is published in the policy text retrieved.

Frequently asked questions

Does deletion remove all my videos?

Yes — once the recovery window lapses, videos, comments and follower relationships are removed and cannot be restored.

Can I just hide my account temporarily?

Yes. Deactivation hides the account and content from other users, and signing back in restores everything.

What if they ignore my GDPR request?

The deadline is one month (GDPR Article 12(3)). After that you can complain to your data protection authority — our generator produces the ready-made letter.

Sources and verification

Known gaps

These facts could not be verified from a source — we don't guess:

  • Controller postal address The EEA policy URL (/legal/privacy-policy-eea) served the global (Singapore) policy on retrieval. The correct EEA controller must be identified before any address is quoted.
  • Links and instructions Help-article bodies are JavaScript-rendered and could not be content-verified. The steps must be checked against the current app UI.
  • AI-training opt-out It needs checking whether an opt-out control exists in app settings that the policy does not document.
