Delete your Spotify account permanently

Closing a Spotify account deletes playlists, followed artists and listening history. Cancel any subscription first.

How to delete your account

  1. Cancel your subscription first

If you're on Premium, cancel it separately — closing the account does not handle billing correctly by itself.

  2. Download your data

Use the Download your data feature on the Account privacy page to get a copy of your listening history and profile.

  3. Close the account

Follow the instructions on Spotify's support site for closing your account. Confirm by email or in the app.

  4. Limited reactivation window

A closed account can be reactivated for a limited time. After that recovery is not possible.

What happens to your data after deletion

Spotify keeps your username and profile data until your account is deleted; streaming history is kept while the account exists to power playlists and recommendations. Some data (e.g. search-query personal data) is deleted after 90 days. After account deletion some data may be kept long-term for very limited purposes such as legal obligations or safety.

Sources and verification

Known gaps

These facts could not be verified from a source — we don't guess:

  • Account deletion page The policy directs deletion through a support-page flow; direct article URLs returned 404 (support.spotify.com/us/article/closing-your-account/). The current support article must be verified in a browser.
  • Data export The policy names the ”Download your data” feature on the Account privacy page; that page URL could not be verified.
  • AI-training opt-out The policy documents developing AI features (e.g. AI DJ) from personal data under legitimate interest without an opt-out switch. It needs checking whether app settings now offer one.
