Deleting a Snapchat account removes Snaps, chats and Memories permanently. Download your data first.
How to delete your account
- Download your data first
Use the app's Download My Data feature to get a copy of your information — the archive is emailed to you.
- Open account deletion
Go to app settings or the accounts portal and choose deleting your account. Sign in to continue.
- Confirm deletion
Re-enter your username and password and confirm the deletion request.
- Recovery window
The account can be restored for a limited time by signing back in. After that deletion is final.
Opt out of AI training
No separate AI-training opt-out is available in this service.
Snap's privacy policy discloses that algorithms and machine-learning models are developed and improved with user information, including conversations with My AI. The policy documents no dedicated opt-out control for model training.

What happens to your data after deletion
By default, Snaps and Chats are deleted from Snap's servers within 24 hours after all recipients have opened them or they expire — unless you save them. Memories content is kept until you delete it. Some information may be retained in backups for a limited period or as required by law.

Frequently asked questions
Are Snaps deleted immediately?

What happens to Spotlight and Map posts?
Public posts disappear with the account once the recovery window lapses.
What if they ignore my GDPR request?
The deadline is one month (GDPR Article 12(3)). After that you can complain to your data protection authority — our generator produces the ready-made letter.
Sources and verification
Known gaps
These facts could not be verified from a source — we don't guess:
- Account deletion page The policy links to deletion instructions but the URL was not captured: support.snapchat.com renders article bodies only with JavaScript. The accounts portal link must be verified in a browser.
- Data export The ”Download My Data” tool is documented, but its portal URL was not captured.
- Controller postal address The policy names Snap Inc. as the company and links to a DPO contact form without publishing an address. The EEA controller entity must be identified before any address is quoted.
- AI-training opt-out It needs checking whether the app settings offer My AI data controls that the policy does not document.
This is general guidance, not legal advice.
