Delete your LinkedIn account permanently

Closing your LinkedIn account hides your profile quickly and deletes your data generally within 30 days. Download your data before closing.

How to delete your account

  1. Download your data first

In Settings → Data privacy you can request a copy of your data (Get a copy of your data). Preparation can take up to a day.

  2. Close the account

Open Settings → Account preferences → Account management → Close account. Pick a reason and confirm with your password.

  3. Visibility ends within 24 hours

Your profile generally stops being visible to others within a day of closing.

  4. The 30-day deletion window

Closed-account information is generally deleted within 30 days. Copies of messages and group posts may remain visible to other users.

Opt out of AI training

No separate AI-training opt-out is available in this service.

LinkedIn's privacy policy discloses that personal data may be used to develop and train AI models, but the policy documents no dedicated opt-out control. A data-sharing setting for generative-AI improvement reportedly exists in account settings but is not described in the policy text retrieved.

After you close your LinkedIn account, your data generally stops being visible to others within 24 hours, and closed-account information is generally deleted within 30 days of closure — except where retention is required for legal obligations, security or dispute resolution. Content shared with others (messages, group posts) may remain visible to them.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reopen a closed account?

Yes — you can reactivate within a limited window after closing by signing back in. The exact window is shown when you close.

What about recommendations and endorsements?

Your profile disappears from search, but copies held by other users (saved contacts, exported data) are not removed for you by LinkedIn.

Who receives my GDPR request?

In the EEA the controller is LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company. The global policy does not publish a street address — use LinkedIn's web form or add the verified address manually once confirmed.

Sources and verification

Known gaps

These facts could not be verified from a source — we don't guess:

  • Controller postal address The policy names LinkedIn Ireland Unlimited Company as controller for the EU/EEA/Switzerland but publishes no street address in the global policy text. The address needs to be taken from the European Regional Privacy Notice.
  • Account deletion page Closing is self-service under Settings → Account preferences → Close account. The URL requires sign-in and could not be verified.
  • Data export The settings-based ”Get a copy of your data” tool could not be verified.
  • AI-training opt-out The current generative-AI data setting (Settings → Data privacy) must be confirmed.
